Manuel F. Mas, M.D., joins the medical staff at TIRR Memorial Hermann after completing his fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine at the University of Houston Health Sciences in Houston, Texas in July 2015. He completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine in 2015. He received his medical degree in 2011 at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine.
Dr. Mas is an assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at UTHealth Medical School. As an attending physician at TIRR, Dr. Mas’ primary focus is on the evaluation, treatment and management of patients admitted for inpatient rehabilitation after suffering a brain injury. This includes traumatic brain injury, anoxic brain injury, stroke, among others. He also follows concussion and mild traumatic brain injury patients in the outpatient setting at TIRR. Dr. Mas is also trained in spasticity management, including chemodenervation with onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) and other neurotoxins, as well as intrathecal baclofen pump management. His clinical interests also include neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal diagnosis, general rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine.
His research interests include concussion prognosis and treatment, spasticity management and disorders of consciousness. His hospital affiliations include TIRR/Memorial Hermann and Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) and Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP). He currently is part of the Program Committee of the AAP. Dr. Mas also works and teachers PM&R resident physicians and medical students. Outside of work, he is an avid follower of technology news, movies and sports.
